A popular alternative to full log homes is Post and Beam construction. This comprises both Log Post and Beam and West Coast style Heavy Timber Post and Beam.
Log Post and Beam combines the character of solid logs with the distinctive natural features that mark individual trees. Usually logs will be joined by traditional joinery methods, however, specific engineering situations or your clients unique needs can be easily accommodated.
Log Post and Beam differs from timber framing in its use of scribing. This allows the builder to use the logs in their natural forms. Each tree is hand peeled so that distinctive features such as root flares are not lost, providing your customers with the perception of a living sculpture. Conventional framing can then be incorporated in a way that showcases the natural beauty of each individual piece.
West Coast Post and Beam is a more contemporary building style comprising dimensional Heavy Timber, usually joined with steel connectors. It is ideal in situations where large expanses of glass and an open feeling are desired.
Both styles of Post and beam construction free up a myriad of possibilities for the creation of open floor plans. From Great Rooms to floor to ceiling Picture Windows, it is only the breadth of your clients' imaginations that will be the deciding factor in design.
